Hood Hanger
I've searched and looked under dozens of different subjects and have not been able to come up with any decent ways to hang my hood over the tank. Staying away from canopies. Darn thing is pretty heavy (60" VHO and 3-HQI fro Aquatico) I'm tempted to get some boat davits. Anyone seen any cool ways to suspend the lights?

I have a rough sketch of what I'm going to use with my new system. I don't know how to add a pic to a reply.

Sketch looks great. Ya might wanna think about looking into the pully systems they use to suspend bikes in a garage. If hanging from the celing is a option for you. his way ya can simply pull them up outa the way during maint and also adjust them up or down depending on how much light pen. ya want.

Thanks ya'll.
I'm a little hesitant to drill into the wall, though that would be best. I've been knocking around with an idea similar to reefrubble's but would really need to use oak to match the stand and feel that it would need to be quite sturdy, as I said, the hood is pretty heavy, and I tend to be like Rick and overbuild.
Funny how I need confirmation so often, so I'll feel more confident about doing something that costs so much. (Right now it looks like about $50 in wood.)
Thanks again everyone!

yardboy,
I'm going to have a muffler shop bend some thin wall tubing, and I will cover it with wood. The metal tubing core will give the strength I need, and the wood covering will give the look I want.

Man reefrubble, you and I must think in sync! I was just asking our electrician what size conduit our bender would handle. 2", which sounds like it would be strong enough (it's aluminum conduit) but how would you cover it with wood? Just box it in with thin stuff, or wrap it with veneer? I also wonder if aluminum will take paint (maybe black) very well?
Thank you so much guy. Great ideas. By the way, what part of Florida are you in?

yardboy,
I will box it in with 1x4 wood. You can paint aluminum if you use the correct primer. I think zinchromeate( not sure about spelling ) will work. The 2" conduit would work great, and because it's aluminum it will be light weight, strong, and corrosion resistant. I live in Weeki Wachee, Florida.

Thanks Rubblereef,
I think that's the route I'll go, besides it's inexpensive enough that if I don't like it I can always do the wood thing later.
Great sketch, by the way. I've seen fancy CAD drawing diagrams of systems tht I couldn't follow as well as your pencil sketch.

Thanks yardboy,
It's the way I'm going to go, if I ever get this new tank set up. I have almost all the components now, so it should be soon.
Good luck with your project, and post a pic when your done.
