OK, i know it ain't rocket science, but I think it's time to stink up the house and make some home made food. Can you all tell me what I should and shouldn't buy if I go to the store today?? Jerel what is your seafood mush recipe? Others?

LOL
Why didn't you just ask me last night?
Shrimp, non-oily fish, clams, oysters, crab, scallops, Nori
tweak it for what you're feeding. Like tangs/damsels/angels add more nori (good green color) etc. The clams and oysters really turn on hard to feed critters. Especially butterflies.
Play with it in the blender until you figure out the right order to add things to get it in the right size chunks. I put the nori in first and really blend it with a little water. Shrimp protein holds it all together. Be sure it's all as fresh as you can get, processed sea food has phosphates (preservative), or let it soak in ice water for a while.
It you end up with too much liquid, rinse it in a strainer before you feed. BTW the corals love the liquid, but it can over load your system until it has a chance to catch up.
What did I forget?
Jerel
Oh, one other thing, this is probably a higher quality food than what you're used to feeding. A little goes a long way, don't overfeed. I don't add anything else to it.

Jerel-
You're talking to a vegetarian..what's a non-oily fish??...and where can I purchase the gas mask I will need to make this stuff.
So, then I'm assuming you freeze in some kind of ice cube tray and feed accordingly?
Oh, and here's what we're feeding. One purple tang, one orchid dottyback, 2 neon gobies, and 2 banggai's, shrimp, serpent star...plus the baby banggai eventually.
Thanks again-
Brooke

See, I told you I'd forget something!
Non-oily fish would be like grouper, snapper, sea trout. Oily fish would be like mackerel, wahoo.
I don't think it stinks, as a matter of fact, if it stinks, it's not fresh enough. Only bad seafood smells. Be sure it only smells fresh and not fishy.
Pour it from the blender into zip-lock freezer bags, Pat flat, and put on a flat surface in the freezer. Break off what you need, not much!
I usually make 2-3 dozen zip-locks at a time.
For those fish, I would make it a nice solid green color.

Hi Johnny,
You really don't have a lot of veggie eaters, but the clowns, gobies, and esp the puffer would love the nori. This is probably a lot higher in protein than what you could buy (dunno).
I would just make it a good solid green color. Again a little goes a long long way. Be careful at first.
Jeff,
Add garlic, carrots, potatoes, salt, pepper, dash of sugar, 1/2 package of "Old Bay", corn to taste. LOL
Make pone of cornbread.
Jerel

Salmon is a good fish to add. It is high in HUFA's (Highly unsaturated fatty acids ). They are the omega-3's you may have heard of.
