hitchikers!!! Anyone know???
I have seen some very little hitchikers on some LR I purchased. They are much too small to get a pic of but I will describe as best I can. They look like a small tube about as high as the lower case l. The opening of the tube is about the size of the upper case O. Around the opening, there are little hairs or arms that are a little shorter than the tube is long. I have looked up aiptasia and that doesn't look like it at all. These little guys are a very light tan color.
There is another hitchiker that are in little clumps. Also too small to take a pic. They are a light to medium tanish brown and they are a little taller than the ones I described above. There are about 5 to 10 in a little clump and the tube is not as wide as the ones above. The hairs or arms around the top are more numerous than the ones above. None of them seem to be spreading but I can't find anything that they might be. I don't want to keep them if they are nuisance. Anyone have any thoughts.

Rule of thumb... when in doubt, take them out.
They sound like worms to me. Look in the reefkeeping online-magazine site and do a search on worms. Another great site is the wetwebmedia.

They don't look like worms. They look more like an anemone.

Actually, I love worms and always leave them in, most of them are beneficial, and most are neat to look at. If your rock is knew, expect to see lots of weird critters soon, as to indentification, do you know where your rock is from?

Tube worms I think cats was referring to. You may have some aptasia on there too. Without seeing them, it is very hard to identify. The ocean is a vast place and there are millions of critters to consider.
Good luck!

No, I don't know where my rock is from. I did a silly thing and I bought LR from an unknown vendor. When it came in I also had a slight hair algae outbreak (I am still working on that one). I have never had as many hitchikers as I have on this batch of rock. I guess I am still learning

I was fortunate, I knew where they aquacultured mine and bought some dive books for that area, you would be amazed how much faster that was than trying to find them online. Once you post pictures, people will be able to help more.

They are not in the shade. They are on the surface of the rocks. The darker ones I spoke of are on the tops of the rock reaching upwards. The lighter ones I spoke of are at different places but they don't seem to hide in the shade.

I wish I could post pics but unfortunately they are much too small to photograph. I have tried but I can't see them in the pics.
