Is it hard or soft?
At first I would guess a sponge of some sort, but it might be some sort of stony coral.
Can you get a larger, higher res image?

Need a closer shot, but it does look like a sponge.

First thought that came to my mind was a dead skeleton to some sort of favia or favite coral. Esp when you said it is really hard. And it looks like it has the pores much like a "pineapple / moon" coral. Any way you can maybe move the rock temporarily closer to the glass to get a bigger pic?

you can attach up to 100k, those shots are only around 25.
I pretty certain it is a skeleton, but still not completely sure without more detailed pics.
How big is it, in mm, or inches?

I second that. Dead Favite of some kind.
