Hey couple more noob questions ITT

First off

14 gallon tank. running for about 2 weeks

and the brown algae has started covering everything just like everyone told me it would... should i get a protein skimmer? and if so would either of these two be ok?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ksid=p3907.m29

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ksid=p3907.m29

And i was thinking of assembling a cleanup crew... one cleaner shrimp and a snail or two.... any suggestions on what kind of snail...

I like this one so far http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...fm?pCatId=2459

and for a shrimp maybe this http://www.aquahobby.com/marine/e_amboinensis.php

also thinking about upgrading the lighting I wanted to get a hood that has two separate lights on b/c i saw one light that makes your anemone look cool but i also wanted to be able to switch it so it can just be regular too...

for starters, the 2 skimmers you show there are not good. you will get what you pay for in a skimmer. look at the aqua c remora or something similar.

If possible try to vac out the diatom.

I don't run a skimmer on either nano I have. I do weekly 20% water changes and that's it. The algae will go away on it's own, I would wait a week or two and let nature do it's thing. Then get some cleanup guys.

take it easy. diatom blooms happen critters will not really cure the diatom bloom. it will go away on its own. the more critters you add now the more likely you will kill them when the diatom bloom goes away.

patience. a skimmer is a good thing. on a 14g tank almost any skimmer rated for 75g will do ok.

Yeah i thought even though that one was a cheap one it would still get the job done since my tank is so small... hey when i do get snails how many should i get? I think i am going to get that protein skimmer just for good measure to make it a little cleaner.....

Hey also I was going to do a water change today.. does it hurt to take out too much water? I was thinking of making it an even five gallons and doing it once a week or once every two weeks.... bad idea?

Keep in mind anemone's get pretty big and will outgrow a 14 gallon tank.

Hello

I would wait on the water change until week 5 or 6. Let the cycle do it's thing. Also, I wouldn't put the skimmer on until about week 4, the coraline on your rock will be releasing spores after the die-off period and you don't want to suck them up in the skimmer, let them spread in the tank. One last thing, anemones produce a lot of waste, it's not out of the question to keep one in a 14 gallon tank but you will really have to keep up on your water quality. Back to the skimmers, I just set up a nano with an airstone skimmer and it is pulling a suprising amount of skimate. I would go with the first skimmer you listed but put a larger wooden airstone in it and get an over sized air pump.. should work fine. Good luck!
