Red Hermit Crab
(Dardanus megistos)---
is a curious species that carries its home around on its back. Because the crab's abdomen is soft and vulnerable, its uses discarded snail shells to protect itself. As the crab grows larger, it must continually seek out larger shells. Hermit crabs are adept scavengers, and will feed on just about anything they find. in my book this makes hima bit of a bad boy!
he is differant from the Clibanarius digueti which is one of the main "red legs" used to fight alage..

remeber the hermits grow so any shell includeing there bothers is fair game..

HTH
sorry i took so long

I just got rid of my second homicidal hermit. I will not longer have anything that gets any size to it.

I am putting one out to pasture in the nano sump as soon as I have water in it. this guy has eaten fish, shrimp, crabs, and his favorite or the slowest thing in the tank snails. the tiny ones are benificial but the big ones are trouble
