Too funny...I was adding LR to my new setup this morning and found one crawling around without a shell...I quickly found him a couple of empties and placed them near by so he could pick one. If I'd only known I could have snapped a pic.

Yes, they swap shells constantly as they molt and their body grows. They are extremely gross-looking without their shell, ew! It's a good idea to keep a small variety of empty shells around in your tank for them to use as real estate, otherwise they will kill each other for the shells.

That is pretty funny that you posted that! the other day i was watching our red legged guy, he was like all suctioned up to this other shell we put in, and i came out a little bit later and he was in the newer one..THEN! i was watching and he suctioned to his old one, well within like 4 seconds his legs were at a different angle, and i noticed he had switched back to his old shell. it was a split second thing, and he had the shells suctioned together so i didnt get to see him move.
was pretty wicked!

there was a post i read on here when i joined, very recently, that this one guys hermit was running around Nekkid! too funny! they gotta be ugly little buggers w/out a shell!

i will try & get a pic if he tries it again!

I once spent about 2 hours watching my hermit go from shell to shell until he made up his mind. They are really fun to watch
