here are pics of cyno/hair algae issue
you can see where my sump return are and the koralia placement. please xpand the full tank shot. i ran it through paint. it shows the cyno/hair algae placement. i move the koralia up an inch and the turn it more toward the center of the front glass. i also pointed it down more. i can see a diff. in the flow.

that is a textbook example of LR that is phosphate laden and needs to be cooked. the other LR looks fine, but i would raise them up off of the sand bed to keep them that way.

I agree with Geoff! you need to do both and maybe time to change the substate.

isn't this to be expected in a 2-3 month old tank ?

Well, it seems to be an issue of excess nutrients in the tank. You may want to reduce feedings and increase water changes and skimming. Cooking the rock and changing the sandbed may seem drastic, but it WILL work. Try the simple stuff first and see if that helps. Although I really don't like to use them, some people have had good results with phosphate binding agents. I don't think flow will help you much (maybe the cyano a little).

the sand bed should be fine, but rock lifts might be a nice option.
I think allot of your issues are from what is in your sump, live rock rubble and chem. filters. keep it clean back there and let the skimmer do its job. just my .02.

ok, for starters it does not look like a rampant problem, only a couple of the rocks. just pull them out. torch the hair off and then cook them by themselves. the rest of the setup looks fine.

It's a young system. I wouldn't panic. Change some water and suck the cyno off the rock. Pull the one with the hair algae and torch it if you have one, if not use a stiff brush and scrub and rinse it off. Then put the rock back in the tank. Like jph said, you can expect this type of thing in a young tank.

sorry, i did not mean to insight a panic. i was just referring to the few rocks that were completely covered in algae. these are the pieces that should be removed from the system and cooked, or at the very least put on lifts to allow the phosphates to be purged from the LR.
the sand should be fine, but having a phosphate laden rock like that on it is not helping it any.
