Question

Help with High Ammonia & Nitrates

Hi,

I've got a 6 gallon nano. I added a.) a clown fish, b.) a torch coral and c.) a fire shrimp 2 days ago. I had 3 snails and a hermit crab in the tank for 1 week prior and everything was fine. Tank had already cycled after ~5 weeks.

Now my ammonia and nitrates have shot way up. Is this normal and will it self-correct?

Readings:

6 gallon
80 degrees
PH - 8.3
Nitrates - 0.3 mg/l
Ammonia - 1.5 mg/l
Salinity - 1.022

Thanks,
Brian

with a nano that small you need to add everything much slower. For now you will need to keep up with the water changes.

I agree a bit fast ... make up a bunch of extra water and do a few WC's that shoudl help until the tank can catch up to the bioload

Each time a tank gets new habitant, it has to increase its bioload and mini cycles can/do happen.

You're tank was cycled for a bioload of a shrimp, now it has more waiste then it can handle. DO THINGS SLOWLY
