Help with a closed loop

I am designing a closed loop for my 20H nano. The plan is to eventually house sea horses in the tank, but still provide decent water turnover and flow without knocking the horses around.

For the closed loop, I am thinking of using either an Eheim 1048 or 1250 or a QuietOne 1200 as the pump, and terminating the return for the closed loop with either dividing Loc Line or a 1/2" circle flow assembly. The circle fow assembly looks like a cross between loc line and a spray bar. I added a pic of my very roughly drawn plan, which does call for a ball valve in the return line to regulate flow.

Does anyone have any preferences of Eheim over QuietOne? Is one quieter than the other? Is one more prone to leak in an external application?

No one out there has any advise on the design or on the pump choices? C'mon, I know there are opinions out there .

Ive seen a quietone in action. Its pretty quiet. I havent seen it long term since it was just installed a couple weeks ago but its barely noticeble. Nothing like the genx I have under my tank..... that thing is really loud

what gph are you looking for? if quiet is the primary concern than you can not beat a Velocity T1 pump. it will push about 400gph.

the bigger the pipe the slower the velocity without lowering the total flow.

This is a good question.I am thinking about doing the same thing. I have a Tunze 6060 on my 75RR and I want to add more flow so i am tagging along. Good Luck!!!

Geoff, Are you sure about the T1? I have been looking it up and the numbers I am finding say it will push 540 gph at 3" of head.

it all depends on the size of the outlets/inlets if you go small like 1/2" than the T1 would be murder in that tank. if you were to put some large holes like 1.5" than the water velocity would not be as great yet you would get great flow. a much more gentle push of the water. it may not be practical though.

remember do not confuse high flow with high velocity.

I hear you , but I have space issues behind my 20 that a T1 wouldn't fit into. That's why I was looking at the Eheim vs the QuietOne. The quietone 1200 will push 300 gph. I figure since the outlets are 1/2" I can play with plumbing size to affect flow.
