I dont know about that either right or wrong. I take sick ones out and put in a beaker and uv for 5 min with 3 new pinneis in the bottom. After UV (Class 3- Destroys all micral bactria and fungus and is very dangours for you eyes and the fish's) I leave them sit in th copper bath for about 30 min the por the water in the drain and toss the fish back in the tank. its workd twice outa twice so far.

man you gotta get serious if you want to fix this, you say you tested for amonia,, great

what are the test results in parts per million,

same with nitrite

same with nitrate

give us the exact value ph wise,,

another thing,, are you sure your tank has been up for 8 months? Did you just add a bunch of live rocks or something like maybe all of the live rock?

quit messing around and take care of the situation, nothing worthwhile is easy.

Sorry no exact values. All I have is test strips. And yes I was reading the strips wrong. It's my nitrate thats high not my nitrite. I mixed up 25 gallons of fresh saltwater that I will change out tomorrow after work. No new fish deaths to report. I also plan on buying some kent extreme garlic this weekend. the next big step is to get a good test kit and get my 55 g tank up and running as a qt / hospital tank. Any new fish will sit in that tank for at least two weeks. I plan on using copper and a UV on the 55 with a bare bottom. I will never just drop a new fish right into my display tank again. Although never say never.

And no it has not been 8 months. I just checked and the first pic was taken on 5/26 wich was about two weeks after it was started. Sorry mike
I added the last 25 LB about a month ago. All rock was curred but not cooked. I am new to this after all.

im by far a expert..but maybe adding 25lbs of LR may have started cycling again... I COULd BE WRONG but thats a lot to add i think..or so i have come to understand.
keep in there. i am new to this.. i havent had anything bad happen yet..but i hope to keep learning and reading. my tank has been up for almost a month now

adding any uncured LR to a system will kick off a cycle. depending on how long the tank has been setup and the proportion of this LR to old LR in the system will determine how bad of a mini cycle will occur.

any amount of ammonia is not good. have you tried putting a test strip into some RO/DI water to make sure the test strips are reading accurately.

an exact pH reading is not really necessary as long as you know it is at least 7.5 you should be fine. pH is an interesting beast so taking a single value can not mean a whole lot. this is another topic though.

I added some ammonia remover that I bought at wallmart. This was before I realized what was going on. My water is very cloudy this morning and the water smells funny. The fish look happy though. I am doing a 25g water change when I get home tonight.

If you plan on putting corals in the tank dont use copper! Copper will kill your lr ls and corals along witn inverts.

I know not to use copper. I noticed that most meds are not safe for inverts. I will probably have to do a bigger water change than I originally planned.
