Two things I just added an old mouse pad under my skimmer pump. I also just removed a dying toad stool yesterday. I add about a qallon of water a day and test the temp and salinity. the top off water is RO.

Do a water change tonight. Large as you can.
But it sounds like ich. In which case it would be best to leave the tank fallow for the 6 or so weeks thats needed.
The mandarin can stay in the tank, i dont think they are supseptible to ich.

timmy-how long has this tank been setup?

sounds like you have a ph test kit-any change. some newer houses retain co2 because they are "too air tight." have your windows been closed with the cooler weather. any major fluctuation in temp? what size heater and can you check the temp early in the morning (generally the coolest temp of the day).

im sorry to hear about your fishy's...its hard. i dont have any answers for you but i know how you feel to be so helpless to watching your fish die

i also have a pond and i just lost 3 fish 2 days ago...one died within matters of seconds in front of me. its very sad.

our places close at 6pm here.... so its kinda hard when you notice it later. i have come to learn to keep a varity of things on hand.. for the most common problems.

again im sorry

i wouldnt quit though..the rest still need you..plus i know you would miss it

keep us updated

I use Kent Garlic Extreme for ich. I don't feed it to the fish. I put 1 drop per 10g. You should really let your salt water sit for at least 24 hrs. after you mix with a power head or air stone. Lets your water values settle. I have never had a fish die from ich. I've done other stupid stuff though. I hate to lose a fish but that's how you keep from doing it again as far as that mistake goes. Do you have a skimmer? sump, etc. Really need to know what your entire setup is to help much.

It's a 125 g rr with a 40 gallon sump. euroreef 8-3 skimmer mag 18 for return and only a 200watt heat. Yes I plan on a bigger heater before winter. I will check me temp in the AM and see what it looks like. The tanks been up for abiut 8 months give or take.

I do feel your pain...as I know how frustrating loosing fish (especially two beauties like that) can be.

But in all honesty, we really can't help you unless you have rest results. And more important than having test results, is having VALID test results.

I highly recommend you get (as prev mentioned) ammonia and nitrates at a minimum, and Alkalinity and Calcium if possible.

All tests should be Salifert brand (most accurate out there).

Also, when posting test results, please refrain from words like "everything's normal." or "values are fine". Insted, please post ACTUAL values as well as the units those values are in. This allows us to help you much more effectivly. (i.e. Exactly what IS your pH? Exactly what is your salinity at? and in what units?)

W/out test results, my best guess would be lack of water movement/aeration, and/or parameter swings (temp swings/pH swings). But these guesses could be WAY off. Need actual water parameters (over a time period) to give any kind of educated guess.

Hope you hang in there, as everyone said, once you get things under control, this is a VERY rewarding hobby. If you have your doubts on that, just have someone over...and when they see your tank, start asking you questions, and you start talking to them about it...you'll remember why you got into it. It's beautiful, fascinating, and so much fun to share your knowledge with people.

Either way, I hope you get some good test kits, and get back to us with the numbers.

As well as fairly detailed description of your set up.

ammonia

Well I got test strips today. The Nitrite part is bad. All els looks good. So this means ammonia. Is there any household items I can use to lower ammonia? I did change both carcole bags last night.
