Help! PVC in sandbed

I have aquascaped my tank using 4" pieces of 4" PVC. The pieces support the live rock for stability, and the 4" of sand will cover them. I have about 8 1/4" holes drilled into each piece. I was about to add the sand to the tank and thought I would make sure that the sand in these pieces will not create dead spots. The pieces of pvc will be filled with sand with rock bottom sitting on top of them. So part of the tops will be open, along with the holes on the sides. Will this be ok or should I worry?

Thanks in advance.

It can be rebuilt.

sounds like a good plan. when this is usually done, several different sized holes are drilled into the PVC pipe. this allows greater water and critter flow between the internal and external sand. this is one of the "proper" ways to run a DSB.

Geoff,

Sorry itsadryheat, I got some peices of that thick platic you were talking about. Its 2 inches thick I was thinking of laminating 3 of those together (6" total) and setting it in the bottom of my tank. Then siliconing the perimeter of the bottom. Then just setting my rock on top of it. I don't know if I have enought of it to do all three tanks. I guess it would depend on the amount of area the rock will cover.
