yeah, the balance of alk/calc seems off, but that may not do anything with the xenia. I've read, though only anecdotal reports, that it prefers higher pH. How are you measuring that?

Something systematically eating it? Maybe some kind of Nudibranch?
Don't xenia like higher nitrates?

i dont think anything is eating it, unless they are doing so and i dont notice, which is possible i suppose, but they dont apear to have been eaten they are just wilted and limp.
maybe your onto something with the nitrates i always had a reading of 10 before introducing them into my tank and now it stays at 0 maybe they used it all up and are starving?? who knows, i have one stem left and it looks like it wont last through the night

Xenia is one of those corals... either you can grow it, or you can't... it may be a blessing that it isn't making it. Xenias like a tank with a little more nutrients, your tank may just be too low in available nutrients to support it

My Xenia grows pretty quick, if you want some let me know, I'm close to you (Sarasota, FL) I usually give it away to my LFS just because its spreading like crazy....

This may sound cruel, but consider yourself lucky. I started with a single stalk of Xenia and now it's totally out of control. I will never recommend that anyone introduce this weed to a tank.

lol thanks guys, for those of you that its thriving do you see a trace of nitrates? i would like to try and find out why it couldnt survive and hope its not linked to the unexplained deaths of some crabs in my tank. i guess if i see my nitrates climb back up that would give me an explanation.

the death of other inverts may indicate some other issues, such as the existence of copper in the system. probably unlikely, but something to look into.
