yup. that's bubble algae ... sorry to say it though
as for getting rid of it. you need to remove it WITHOUT breaking the bubbles in the tank.
if that rock can be moved, pull it and remove the bubbles carefully. if you cant pull the rock, then be even more carfeful.
an emerald crab will devour the stuff, but may also get other stuff too. if it's just that small section, then just pull them out ever so carefully.
good luck!

y eah, just pull them off, the bubbles (t5hat I experienced) are a lot harder to pop than I thought, but be gentle to be on the safe side, it's really not something to sweat as much as you are

I removed mine in a rubbermaid with madeup saltwater. I used my fingernail to get under them and pop them off. Just dont put this water back into tank because if you popped any of them, the spores will be everywhere and then can REALLY take over your tank.

Tweezers and a baster. The base has a stem grab it by the stem lift and suck it up for the rocks ya cant remove.

I guess I got lucky, I had a bucket with make up water, and had a large container of more make up water, and while I picked with tweezers, hubby ran water gently from the jug over it, 'course I only had about 4 bubbles. that was 2 yrs ago, and nothing since. What does cause them? anyone know?

Whoo hoo, time for a bubble algae removal party... I just got rid of a bunch last night. I actually pulled them out with my syphon hose while doing a water change. After the suction was flowing I slid my hose over them, and gave ever so slight a shake to loosen the bubble. Pulled out about 5 intact. In the past I have had good luck with the turkey baster method.

I also pull out the rocks and tweezers them off in water-change water [the old stuff I'm going to dump] ... making sure to agitate well before returning to the tank.
Still battling the blasted stuff ... hopefully my emerald will help me out. I had a little in my QT tank on rocks and the emerald there did the job ... but I also feed that tank a lot less. Guess I may need a couple to take care of it ... pretty slow growing, but it shows up the most annoying/difficult places.
I'd remove manually the most you can ... do it in used water you're going to toss. The siphon trick never worked that well for me ... mine holds on too well.
At least it's pretty for being a nuisance. Hair algae spreads faster and is uglier ...
