Help! My Xenia Got Bit Bad! Very Bad!

Well I got a problem and I am going to try to fix it. Two questions; how was the problem caused and can I fix it like this? My Pumping Xenia was doing great up until now. It had 4 big bas branches but all of a sudden this morning I found that one of the trunks of one of the branches looked as if something took a bit out of it. I don't know what exactly but it looks like something did it to him because if it was some sort of infection, I think it would take longer than a night to do the damage that was done. Now it is only hanging by a lil piece. What could have happened? I'll have pics in a lil. 2nd, I want to cut the bad piece away and try to propagate the rest. The polyps look to be fine and my question here is can I use plastic wrap (like the one from the kitchen) if I cut lil holes in it and rubber band it over the xenia? I wanted to do this instead of wedding veil, that everyone recommends . . . I don't have any of that stuff. I have more questions but I don't want to put too many. I'll ask later.

Thanks!

the reason for the wedding veil is for the flow. the plastic wrap maybe too constricting.

you should be able to cut the "bad" area out of it and the "stump" should grow back..
the rest if everything goes right should re attach and grow once you secure it to the area you want it.

do you have any idea who or what took a bit? you may want to check on the tank after "lights out" to see if anyone is going for a midnight snack.
