HELP! My maroon is sick and I don't know what's wrong with her!!!

My maroon clown has something that looks like white patches on the front of her body. It showed up just 2 days ago and I thought it was ick because it was small white spots. It is mainly on the front half of her body with a spot or two around her rear dorsal fin. These pics might not be very good but hopefully someone will know how I can save my clown. She is my oldest and my favorite fish!!! I have had her for almost 3 years now! Please HELP!

Yes she is still eating. I just fed her and she gobbled it right up as usual. She is now swimming against the current from the powerhead. I know it is really hard to see in the pic but it looks like it is kind of cotton-y and a tiny piece will slough off every once in a while. It is the cottony stuff, not her skin (at least that is what it looks like).

Fungus looks like it is a very possible contender. How do I treat a fungal infection? I don't want to remove her if I can help it because I know that would cause a ton of stress. When I first got her almost 3 years ago, there was a fin problem where bits of her fin would deteriorate. At that time, I used Melafix and it worked like a charm! She has been very healthy since then until now.

Is she behaving any differently than normal? She is eating...that's very good. Can you set up a QT, as suggested above?

The only difference from her normal behavior is the swimming against the current of the powerhead. I am going to try a QT tank but I have to go out and get one. I can do that but I know how hard fish are to catch and I don't want to stress her any more than I absolutely have to. But, if QT is the best way, I will definately do that!

My tank is a 55 gallon with about 60 lbs LR. There is a neon dottyback, engineer goby, and a damsel (can't remember the variety). As for inverts, there are nassarius snails, a few turbos, a mexican turbo, a few hermits, 1 gorgonian, 3 types of mushroom, and 2 types of zoos. I have a live sand bed that is about 1.5 inches deep. I have a skimmer, and a 10 gallon sump that I put together myself. I have one powerhead (where she is swimming).

So treating the 55 is out of the question. A suggestion...get a 10 gallon tank, a heater and a cheap filter...that will run you about $30-$40. If you have 10 gallons of makeup water ready for a water change, use the 10 gallons you empty from your tank to use in the QT. That way you don't have to screw around with making the QT water match the 55 water. I wish you well in catching him...that's the hard part. Good luck!!

From your description, I'm pretty sure it's Brooklynella.
It's small patches of white milky looking slim right?

I had a small white strip maroon that had the same thing, I did the fresh water dip and formalin dip but unfortunately it was too late and it didn't make it. The sooner you treat it, the better chance of recovery.

A recent thread I ran across on RC:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=785408:

Formalin dosing info:
Bath treatment for Brook are 1ml per 5 gal (~20L) up to 1ml per 1 gal (~4L) for 30 to 60 minutes in salt water with an airstone.

I hope s/he makes it. I recently saw 7-8 BEAUTIFUL large gold strip maroons at my LFS. They all had Brooklynella. A week later, I went back to check to see if there were any left, there were only 2 left.

Beng
