help my brain is dying!!!
I am not sure what happened, yesterday my brain looked great, color and such, today when I came home from work it looked like this. I just checked my chemistry, all seem fine within normal limits. the only other coral with issue is my xenia which seems to have pulled in and doesn't want to come out and play. Any ideas? or is it to late for this brain of mine? Is it possible it was on the way out when I bought it? Only been in tank for a week or so?

Parameters are 1.024
calcium 450
nitrate nominal, nitrite and ammonia 0
What other parameters should I be checking?

brains are pretty hardy, I would just watch your parameters closely for the next week or so. Did you drip acclimate? Maybe you tried to acclimate it too fast? I would have to guess that something is up though if the xenia is pulled in. Did you check for high phosphates? What about the temp in the tank? I am sure you checked all the other stuff... ie. nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, alk, ca, ph, and all that good stuff. Best thing to do is just leave it be for a few days at least, and see how it adapts, my lobo got into a stinging war with the calustrea (sp?). In the morning, it had big holes in it, and the trumpet colony only had a few surviving heads to it. Within a week you could not even see where the lobo had been damaged. Wish the trumpets were that resiliant. Best of luck to you.

It may have been on the way out, But if You have corals in the tank with issues You may have something going on. Brains can go down pretty fast. Recheck everything to make sure and do a water change if needed, but it may be two late for it, Not looknig good.

That has been my experience, the going down fast part. 2 large ones that have died on me......1 went because i had it in the rocks and stressed it out. I am pretty confident in this because in hindsight the thing was trying to move itself but couldnt due to how i had it. The other one had about 1/4 of it annihilated by a sailfin tang over the course of a few days. I tried to bring them both back when i realized what was wrong but after a few weeks of trying on both it was pretty clear they werent going to make it.

I've always read that they prefer bottom placement in a tank. My friend's is doing great on his sandbed and hasn't had any problems with it.
But... I agree that something else is going on in your tank. Did you recently add any additives to the tank?

I had one of those that did the same thing, put it in the sand, in a shadow and it should come back.

I have one that looks almost identical to yours. Same thing, after about a week it shriveled up. It was midway up on a rock. I was told to put it in the sandbed because they like the sand. After a week in the sand there was no change. So I put it up on the top, on a rock, under a 250 halide, and within a day it swelled up and has been great ever since. It is perched on a rock in a way that when it is open and swollen and hangs over its skeleton, it does not touch any rock. Mine loves the light.
