When you say tank crashes do you mean everything dies? I would be devistated. I have had freshwater fish for years and this tank was for my baby angelfish originally, when they were grown up enough to be sold My fiance convinced me it would be the best time to start a saltwater tank. Empty tank when does that ever happen in our house? Parents still in a seperate tank. SO here I am left with all of the work(which I dont really mind). Much beter than taking a pupy out in the rain to do his thing right!

I really appreciate your help.

tangs are supose to help with green alge but i never had luck with the yellow in my tank died stress got ick had him in a 55 gal. They do need 100gal or more I really want a naso tang but only have a 55. Yes when tank crahes a lot die you need to make sure your nitrates are as low as possible 0, monitor water quality often.

Thanks. I will get a test kit tommorro from the pet store. I am worried to have to break the news to fiance about tang. He really likes him. Its a shame, I wish when I researched
the tang it would have said the truth, but maybe when they are trying to sell them they dont want you to know all of the truth.

He wanted a blue tang also and I knew we didnt have enough room for him. Do you think I should get a phosphate test, maybe they are to high and giving me all this algea or this natural for my point in the cycling process?

Welcome to TRT!!
Ditto on what Tim said, not to kick a dead horse, but your tank is stocked way heavy for only 3mos old. You may want to increase the water change intvervals and monitor your levels closely.
With the exeption of snails and hermits I would not add anything else at this time. If you dislike snails due to a freshwater experiance thats justified... snails in your SW tank are a good thing and will help take care of that algae.
Keep in mind those damsels are probley still young and establishing territory. More likley than not, they will eventually give you problems (for sure some headaches!)
Always remember, research, read and than research some more, and there is no such thing as a stupid question.

thanks for info! because I am overstocked should I get rid of my damsels now? They are so pretty it is a shame. they could go back to lfs.
So in 3 months when I am cycled will I be able to do more aquascaping? My tank is looking pretty brown. Id like to get some a clam and button polyps.
The guy at my pet store told me not to clean my tank for the 1st 4 months or I would start the cycling all over again(bitter old guy).He told me to keep adding the new water when it evaporated and that was all I should do. Sounds insane to me.Is there any vality to that statement?
