hehe ya just never know

I was at a LFS a couple months back and noticed a little acro frag all by its self like it was misplaced and maybe forgotten about. It was brown and receding a bit but looked like it might make it so I asked outta curiosity how much? The reply was 10 dollars So I figured what the hell I gonna get it and see what it does. Well it is starting to grow pretty well and it isn't brown no more

Groovy, that will be a nice colony one day. I personally have started all my sps's from tiny frags, some have turned into nice little colonies over the last 8 or 9 months.

TWO OF THE NICEST COLORED FRAGS IN MY TANK WERE FREEBIES. ONE CAME FROM THE LFS WHEN THEY WERE THROWING AWAY DEAD CORALS. IT STARTED AS A TOOTHPICK SIZED DEAD BRANCH AND NOW IT'S A BRIGHT BLUE STAG ABOUT THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL. THE OTHER CAME FROM ANDY DAIS(MYREEF CREATIONS) WHEN HE THREW DOWN A CORAL TRADE IN ANGER, AFTER HE GAVE SOMEONE A HUGE FRAG AND THEY GAVE HIM ONE THE SIZE OF A PENCIL ERASER. THAT PENCIL ERASER IS NOW A BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT PURPLE BLUE STAG THAT IS ALSO SOFTBALL SIZED.THANK YOU ANDY ....EAT YOUR HEART OUT... HAHAHAHA

not to hijack the thread....but what is a generally accepted size of frags to trade....I have traded quite and have seen a big variation....while I am not at all unhappy with what I have received, the thought of parity comes to mind occasionally....

I think I've traded with that guy too.

You're right though. Some of my nicest corals were ugly duckling frags when I got them.

There is no rule. A lot depends on the coral. Some SPS are so tightly branched that it's nearly impossible to get a decent size branch off of it. If the mother colony is small or rare then the frag may be smaller. I try to supply a pic whenever possible or at least give a description of the size and color so there won't be any surprises when trade time comes.
