Heater question

Hello Everyone!
Woo-Hoo! The day has arrived! Today I add water to my tank. My euro-reef skimmer came in the mail on friday

Anyhoo--- quick question... I have 2 150 watt tronic heaters. I was wondering if these heaters are fully submersible? Or does the top of the heater (where the thermostat setting is, have to be above water?)
Thanks in advance for any help...
Pete

I'm not familiar with that heater. Did it come with any instructions?

As far as the heaters go yes they should be submersable but be aware those are the same heaters that cooked my Puffer and Morey and they were less than 6 moonths old. I now use nothing but Ebo's in my tanks

Ditto, good heater, good recommendation. Also Won brothers titanium heaters. If you get the new packaging for the EJ's, the manufacturer no longer recommends submersing the heater. I do not know if this is due to new manufacturing process or to an attempt to reduce their aftermarket liability. Consequently my new ones are not submersed, but rather stuck onto a piece of plexiglas with the control knobs exposed. They are mounted diagnoally on the bubble lift separating the drains from the returns from the tank, refugium, etc from the pump intakes.

Thanks everyone! Very helpful.
I got the 2 tronic heaters for free when I purchased the tank. I guess I got to order the ebos or won Certainly not worth taking a chance with these. Anyone here actually use these heaters with good results---just wondering. These brand heaters are the only ones my LFS carries, and according to them "are the best heaters on the market"...Rigggggghhhht...
thanks again
Pete

I had 2 different Brand "X" heaters fail in freshwater tanks. I've used nothing but Ebo's since. I have 7 in use; one being almost 8 years old, with no problems at all.

I've heard good things about the Won's and the unbreakable aspect is mighty appealing.

TD,
I understand the anti-submersable warning is a CYA thing and the heaters haven't changed. I have one submerged...no problem.

Dick, I will buzz you tomorrow and wish you a Happy MD amongst other things...

I have spent a lot of time looking at the EJ's and trying to decide if there were any obvious differences between the 2 new one I have and the 2 old ones... Heh, i8nterestingly enoough, I bought the 2 new ones because a pair of the older EJ's quit (after about 7 or 8 years of continuous ops, at least they didn't stick in the "on" position...)
