I really think it depends on where in the country you live. In the north we have 2 200 w and a 50 on our 200 gal system but if our house was any colder we would need another 300 watter. in the summer we hardly need a heater. It is best to have multiple smaller heaters than 1 big heater. HTH

I noticed you live in Orlando, we use to live in Titusville before moving back to Lake Park.

Down this far south it is easy to use centrel heat and air to control the water temp. I keep my house about 78 degrees year round.

No heaters, too many people have lost everything with a defective heater, it is worst when they stick on. I figure why take the chance.

It comes on early in the morning during the winter months. Usually the VHO's heat up enough in side my cabinet to warm the water to about 80F. In the summer I usually remove the heater since I know it will never go on. It helps reduce the risk of "sticky heater syndrome".

hey Fishaholic where is lake park? I was just curious about peoples thoughts, I have never had a heater cook a tank of mine probably it will happenb tonight now that I said it What I am actually trying to do is heat a semi outdoor pond in a pseado greenhouse, I have been amazed at how warm it stays in this cold weather. Its a whole different story trying to bring 60 up to 78 than 72 up to 78, but I was curiousas to people thoughts. Ever have any bad luck with the visitherm heaters anybody? I do use heater because I always run systems and keeping a constant temp is important to me. Hey you ever do any diving I am always looking for new dive partners...

I would suggest that you find out how many (if any) heaters you will need to maintain a stable temperature before you stock your system. A good time to test this will be while it is cycling. I highly recommend either Ebo Jager or Won Pro heaters. I have two Won Pro heaters in my tank and they are awsome. Check them out at Premium Aquatics.

I love to dive, I just have developed an adversion to wetsuits Winter diving that is.

Lake Park is right across the Florida line on I 75.

If it is a pond in a greenhouse I would suggest a pool heater. There are a few Gardening boards on line that have people who are very much into ponds that would have some good advice on brands of Heaters.

My wife is my dive partner, but we can always use some more people.

I am not sure if you know the area well but there is a rock reef not a hundred yards off shore just south of you, most of the time visability is 5 - 10 feet but it does clear up. 5 - 10 feet visability is kinda a sweet when your looking for bugs.
Look for Wabasso beach just south of Sebation inlet, you will not see any mention of the reef, but it is there. Straight off the boardwalk.
