Heading to Micronesia in two weeks
Just thought I would brag a little about our upcoming scuba trip.
In two weeks Pat and I leave for a trip of a life time that we have been planning for many years. We fly into Palau (via Hartford, Newark, Houston, Honolulu, Guam - whew !!) and spend a week on the Peter Hughes Sun Dancer liveaboard. Then go to Truk Lagoon for a week on the Thorfin liveaboard.
Palau is known for it's great coral, and Truk for it's WWII wrecks. I am really looking forward to seeing Clownfish and Clown Triggers for the first time in the wild. All of my previous scuba diving has been in New England, Florida and the Caribbean where they don't have most of the species we keep in our tanks.
I wonder how many fish and corals I can sneak back ? [just kidding!!!]

Thanks.
I will be taking my underwater digital still/video camera so I will have lots of pictures.
Safe? Yeah, it's kind of scarry thinking about taking that many different airplanes in such a short time with what is going on. Also, the sister ship to the Sun Dancer (the Wave Dancer) sunk in Belize a couple of days ago in the hurricane and killed about 18 people. Pat and I had been on the Wave Dancer two years ago. Sad.
I'm sure I will have to anticipate a good security check. My carryon bag is going to have my regulator with dive computer attached, and my underwater metal housing for the camera and all the do-dads that go with it. It's going to look suspicious in the X-ray machine!

Remember to get your shots.
Malaria and the works, mind you.
The most common problem you foreigners (hehe) run into when coming over to the tropical Pacific is either malaria or indigestion. I mean, the food can be incredibly delicious, but thoroughly unfamiliar to your digestive system
Pack the allergy cream for those sea rashes...
You're travelling over with jellyfish season prepping up in many parts of the western Pacific, and while a direct jellyfish attack (har har) is not likely, there can be a lot of jellyfish body parts drifting in the current, still capable of packing a sting.
Above all, get plenty of rest NOW, to better enjoy your trip!
Have fun.

Horge: Thank you for the advice. About the shots .... we asked our doctor and he said since we will be on a boat the whole time and not staying on land that we would not need any shots. How does that ring with you?

You will still have plenty of opportnuity for malaria just before and just after the boat trip. Also, a lot depends on the boat's cleanliness.
Your doctor knows best what is the downside to vaccination and other medical matters. Maybe you can write to Doc Ron or Doc Gerry (two chaps who've spent quality - hehe- time in Palau) what the real risk of malaria is there, and be thus better advised.

Actually, we WILL be on the boat virtually all of the time. Mosquitos do not touch Gary...just me. I have been a world traveler since I was 19 (I'm now 53) and got cholera prevention before going to Tonga. The CDC does not feel that it is a problem in Micronesia. Now Anthrax may be another thing (a sick joke, I know)...
