head pressure on my pump can it handle a ball valve

I have a little giant external pump 1200 gph, can it handle a ball valve on it or would the head pressure on the pump damage the pump? im having a micro bubble problem and my head is about to explode.

As long as it is on the discharge side of the pump I dont see a problem. If you limit the intake then you will starve the pump.

Maybe some one with more LIttle Giant exp will chim in.

wel i dont have a little giant but i do have a panworld pump that is similar. i also use a ball valve on the discharge and i dont seem to have any problems. but i do hav e amicrobuble prob. what causes that? he ontly thing on the intake side is 1 inch pvs and then a 90 street ell to make the water pickup lower. other than that i dont think ball valves will do any harm.

I know that there are a # of things, the #1 thing that causes them is the water in the sump is moving too fast and causeing it, another is a venturi like effect, basicly it is sucking air from somewhere

fixed it

Ok i Fixed the micro bubble problem!!! I called little giant to see if i could put a ball valve on the pump and they said no problem as long as it was on the outlet. so i bought one, put it at 50% flow and now i have no micro bubbles and TONS of flow, 750 gph+ 200 from a powerhead. Im so excited that i will be able to look at my tank for the fisrt time in 3 years and it will look like something from a pet store display!! Thanks everyone for helping me out. I also added baffles to help slow the flow down and a durso pipe with an adjustable air valve and a slotted pipe to prevent snails from getting in!
