Having trouble finding sand
In our area "Tulsa, Oklahoma" I am having trouble finding the new castle sand be it tropical play sand, southdown play sand, or just old castle sand. I figure I need 6 bags of the stuff for my tank. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find it? I've already called Lowe's and Home Depot around my area.
Thanks,

try calling your local Home Depot and ask if they have the Southdown Tropical Playsand SKU#578819. Tell them specifically the SKU#, cause sometimes they don't know what your talking about and just tell you that they don't have it. These sand are seasonal items so if your in the spring/summer season, then your HD should have some of these in stock. Hope this helps....

Toys R Us sells sand, I dont know specifically what type. But toystores in general might be another place to look.

I would never have thought to look there, but I will. My alternative is to spend $30.00 a bag. That thought puts my plan to put stuff in my tank quiet a ways off. Plus I don't want to pay that much for sand.

I had no luck with that sku #. They said it wasn't in there computer. I have found a brand that Toys R Us carries. I am going to call them again and get more specifics on it. Thanks, for that idea. I don't get it at the LFS because they want $30.00 a bag for it. The toy stores and HD want $3.00-$4.00 a bag

Sounds like Im missing somethings here. 2 reasons I know why people use sand. #1 Aesthetics,#2 Biological filtration.
Ive only used live sand, but if I didnt have that or couldnt afford that Id still have to go with the natural sand. The compounds by no means buffer the system but experts still do beleive that it plays a role, as well as being an ideal substrate for various pods and worms which help clean and feed your system. Just seems like youd be waiting an awfull long time for anything else to "cure" other than some form of aragonite. This will help your search a lil...

The sand in the link is not live sand, it is just aragonite sand. The difference between this aragonite sand, and limestone or aragonite based play sand, is not signficant enough otherwise to justify the cost.

In either case, she is going to have the seed the sand with some live sand, and it is going to take months for the sand to cure.

I found some sand at Wal-mart that is called Gulf Coast white beach sand. It looks like old castle sand. Do you know anything about it? They say it is a silica sand.

45 bucks for 80lb sounded pretty decent?
I knew it wasnt live and posted it because Booboo33062 didnt want to pay for live sand and said she already tried Lowes and HD, but ya, reguardless, it definately will need seeding and time. Booboo33062, no silica sand. Like drsyme says stay with limestone/and or aragonite based sand. I just did an "aragonite" search on ebay but you might want to try "old castle" or those other ones...
