Having a few bad days here....

Here we go.

I did a water change early this week. I even cleaned some powerheads due to them being clogged with snails.

The next day I decided to join the "Clam club"( I got my first clam). A Maxima.

I brought it home and I had to do some aquascaping. No big deal.

Any way here is where it goes downhill.

One I have a small piece of LR that I am trying to get the clam to attach to. I had the clam half way up in the rockwork but it kept falling off. Even over night with no lights on.

So I put the piece of LR and the clam on the sand and figures once it attached to the LR I can move it back up.

Well, when I got home last night the $&*#ing powerhead that I cleaned the day before fell off of the glass and do I need to say it. There is more southdown sand on top of my rocks then on the bottom of the tank. Clam was burried.

I dug the clam out and blasted the sand off of the rocks. (Snowing) I moved the clam back on the rock pile to let the sand settle again.

This morning the clam fell off of the rocks again. I would understand it if the lights were too bright but it keeps moving it self off of the rocks and this morning I found it behind the rockwork and we all know how much a PITA that can be to retrieve.

I got the clam back on the sand bed for now.

Meanwhile I look at another powerhead adn it decided to suck up part of my sinularia leather.

ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!

Sorry, Had to vent.....

I am planning another water change tonight or tomorrow in case the stirred up DSB wil lcause any problems.

So, What should I do about the clam? Tank?

I would leave him on the sand bed, next to a rock for him to attach to. Something could be spooking him, and as fast as they close, he could be knocking himself off the rocks. Or a snail or someone is bumping him off. So, I vote leave him on the sand bed next to a rock and he will attach if he wants to.

Funny thing about Clams... No matter where you want it, if it's not happy it will move itself... Leave it alone for a while and let it decide where it wants to be. You can place a piece of flat LR next to it and see if it will attach so you can try to place it where you want it. You can also try getting a "cup" shaped piece of LR or a clam/scallop shell and placing it inside of the shell (only one half of the shell) and see if it will attach to that.

Do you think I will have a problem with any of the tank parameters since the sandbed was stirred up?

You should not have a huge problem but I have seen someone disrupt a dsb and cause a mini cycle before. my clams like sand for some reason but i have croceas.

Leave it in the SB with a shell or rock under it...Allow it to attach then move the clam rock and all.
