Hardiness of cleanup crew?

I'd like to get a clean up crew in my tank to get things a little nicer and whatnot but I'm curious as to their hardiness. I'm developing and increasingly annoying look of detritus and I'd like them to get rid of it but I'm curious as to their sensitivity to ammonia levels.

My last test said 0 ammonia but my assumption is that the poo has created some ammonia levels but I have to test again so I'll get back when I have a chance to test.
Tank up for a month but with nothing but liverock and water changes for filtration (skimmer and filter on the way)

visit www.reeftopia.com for info on clean-up crews

quality stuff (when they aren't running for cover from hurricanes)
my fav's are Cerith and Nassarius snails with blue legg hermits
I put about 100 of each in my 94
and about 75 of each in my 72

the main cleanup crew in a SW system is you.

you need to be siphoning out any detritus you see during water changes. a cleanup crew can only do so much. remember a cleanup crew produces wastes also. at some point the detritus will need to be removed. it becomes end detritus and nothing will eat it.

The only problem that I had was with the scarlet crabs. I lost 8 out of 10 in the first 2 weeks. The company said it was due to shipping in cold weather and credited my account. All the rest, 5 kinds of snails, blue legged crabs , emerald crabs, and sally are fine.

I agree with this statement.

On my first tank I had a bunch of snails and crabs, slowly but surly the crabs started killing the snails and my goby and a brittle star ate the crabs. So if you really wanted to keep a clean up crew you will have to spend money on replacing them every so often; frankly I rather spend the money on fish and coral, so now I am BB and only have 3 turbos from the original 5 I got 5 months a go. This si good for my tank.
