Happy Father's Da
To all you Dads out there, I decided this post should be right here on GRD. Here's to all of you, walking on here terra firma or ones in the glorious beyond.
When I was 6 Dad took me to the bathroom in the middle of the night so that I wouldn't wet the bed. And sometimes I woke up to see what painting he was working on so late at night. In the 3rd grade I wanted to play violin because he did, and after 3 years of sounding like a wet cat, I switched to French Horn. I think he was glad of that, and so was the rest of the family
He teased me when I went to the senior prom. And rightly so. Mom said I could stay out til midnight, but I came home at 11:30, because it wasn't that much fun.
He taught me voice in college, and told me I wouldn't get anthing better than a C if I didn't stand up straight. (never did he give out idle threats....)
He gave me away when I got married, and even sang a duet with my brother.
And was my special support when my husband died.
When we were kids, Dad's anger was mighty, but we all knew his love was constant.
Now, at nearly 80, Dad is fairly active and lives here in a retirment community. He calls my sister and me his "Mother Superiors" because we hover too much.
This is the best pic I could find of Dad. Wrong season for it, but fun. Here's to you, Dad!

That was a very good tribute to your Dad. I only hope my two daughters feel the same about me when they are grown.
To all the Dad's out there, the best of days to you.

Hey cath! Nice pic of your dad and great memories you two have shared! Unfortunately for my father who passed away at the age of 58, I do not have fond memories of him as he was a child abuser and I suffered at the hands of him! I lost my fear of him and anger the day of his funeral!
On the bright side though, my son called me yesterday, and he wants me to come to his new place today and have a BBQ with steaks and a cold one! So for all of us DADS today have a great day as we have earned it!! Johnny

Happy Father's Day to all our TRT Dads!
"Daddy" is 83 and though his heart is weak, his mind is strong. I am very proud to be his son. He taught me many things by word and example, not the least of which was that your word is your bond. I wrote in his card for today: "To the best Daddy a son could ever ask for", and I meant it. FishGirl & I will be going to see him this afternoon and I'll have the privilege of telling him again.
I might look just a bit like him.

These are sme great tributes to Dad's. We can all probably find a little of each of our dad's in each of them.
When I was a teenager, I didn't get along with my "daddy" very well. In fact when I was 18, I thought I knew everythig and he knew very little; by the time I turned 21, I was amazed at how much he learned in the three short years. After I realized that we have gotten along great since....what a revalation!
I think it has been said "We are the people our parents warned us about" ...
I won't see him today as he lives in the great state of Georgia, but we'll all talk to him and let him know how much he has and still means to us all whether is the the "dad" the "grand-dad" or the "in-law dad". (boy to be back down south-but it'd be a long commute to see the wife and kids)
Everyone have a great Father's Day!!
Bob

Wow what nice tributes
The best DAD in my life is my husband, who is of course, our kids' Dad.
My own Dad...well I keep him in my thoughts and prayers, the man I new as "Daddy" left when I was 7 and while he came and went from my life since, he was never quite the same man. He still lives close to my childhood home, he knows where I am and passes through here Spring and Fall on his way to and from FL but he chooses not to be a part of our lives. Too bad...he's missing out on some terrific grandkids. (And he's got a couple of pretty nifty daughters too...). It's a shame, and it saddens me but in the long run, it's HIS loss...I don't have 'him' but I've got lots more, so I try to look at who I do have in my life, instead of who I don't have.
Today I miss my Step-Dad. My mother re-married 7 years ago, a man 28 years her senior, and for the 5 years they were married until he passed, he was more of a DAD than my father could have been, and more of a grandfather to my kids. They miss their "Mr. Bill" as do I. Bill's own kids never paid him much mind, but we loved the time we spent with him, we had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun. He was a Dad in all the ways that mattered to us. I know that Bill still watches over us from Heaven, and I find great comfort in that.
I've got a really terrific father-in-law too...he welcomed me to his large family as a daughter (not an in-law), and I've been a welcome member of that family for 17 years now.
I've got more "haves" than "have nots" and for those wonderful men in my life, THANK YOU and I love you all!
Jenn

Happy Fathers day to all you dads out there (and single mothers who do so much)
Well as long as we are doing things about our fathers let me tell ya about mine. My Dad taught me so much through life everything from how to build a Motor to how to Mow the grass. I must say the most improtand thing he taught me is how to be a loving caring Dad. He showed me what it is like to love someone unconditional. I mean by no means was I the perfect kid. But through it all he stuck by me and said Hey Kid your ok. We have a great realtionship as well as a friendship. I must say he is my best friend in the world. Thanks Dad for the lessons sometimes hard learned.

Happy Father's Day to all our "Dad's" whether they be part of our "real" family or part of the family of our hearts.
My Dad died in a car accident when I was three and I only have a couple sketchy memories of him. My Mom, my sister and I went to live with my Mother's parents so "Grandpa" was my Dad. He raised me right and I'm trying to do the same with my children. We lost him a year and a half ago and I still stumble over that sometimes: "I need to tell Grandpa that!" or on New Year's Eve it had always been my tradition to call him at midnight to wish him Happy New Year and to let him know I was safe and sound where ever I may have been celebrating the occasion. Again this year I found myself picking up the phone to give him a call before I realized what I was about and put the phone back down with a sigh and a little smile.
Today my children and I celebrate Father's Day with my husband, their Dad. He's the best Dad they could ask for, although sometimes when he's laying down the law they might not think so Steve and I just celebrated our anniversary this weekend and I look forward to many more years with him as the Dad of the family

Happy fathers day to all the fathers out there. I just got off the phone with my dad. After talking with him, I decided that I can't even begin to put into words what he means to me. We have always been close and he is one of my very best friends. I am not a father of humans yet, but I hope to be as great a father as he has been. I know I have a lot to live up to if I am going to be like him. Thanks dad!
