Hang on refugium?

Can anyone post up a link to any info on a hang on the back refugium and where I can buy one? I remember it being posted here awhile ago but my searches have turned up nothing! TIA

CPR makes one called the aquafuge, also there is a more expensive one, I think it is called the 'eco-system'. Lotsa places carry them, but I remember seeing the cpr at www.reeffanatic.com

Thanks for the info! It seems kinda scary though. With the dimensions they describe, the largest size is 24"x12"x4" which makes it close to 5 gallons. Is that too much weight to be hanging off a single pane of glass?

I saw one of the CPR refugiums at the LFS yesterday and it was designed to hang inside of the aquarium from little suction cups on the glass.

-actually the weight of the refugium does not stress the pain of glass as much as the outward pressure of the water inside the aquarium.. BTW the manufacturer probably looked into that when they designed the refugium (you can't sell a hang on refugium if it breaks your aquarium.)

Was it this one?

If so, it sure doesn't look like it's supposed to go INSIDE the tank! If it is an internal refugium then I won't bother with the CPR one.

Good point James. I won't worry about breaking the glass then!

No I don't think it was that one, that looks a lot bigger than the one I saw. The one I saw looked about 6" wide x 4" deep x 10" tall with small hole drilled in the sides and fittings on the back for the suction cups to fit into. It may have had a bracket for hanging on the aquarium edge but it was still meant to be inside of the aquarium.

try this link -

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...=6&pCatId=3618

hope that link works -- If not... It used to be petwarehouse.com you can go there and do a search for refugiums.

I bought the 18 inch CPR and noticed no benefit really... they also have a tendancy to overflow if macros break off and clog the out take to the tank. Saw a couple of posts on that. Since I installed my sump/fuge, I removed it. Used the ph it came with to pump water from the sump into the fuge though.

For the money... get a cheap class tank to use as a sump if you have the room. Better in the long run and easier to maintain.

I have a bunch of small tanks lying around, but how can I make a sump without drilling a hole into the main tank, or doing some major plumbing work? My tank is only 27gal and I want to set up a refugium.

A couple of ways, depending on how you want to set it up. If all you want is a fuge, you can drill a hole into it and with a bulkhead and some minor plumbing, have it gravity feed down into your tank. This would require putting it above your display tank or in your stand above the sump. You put a small flow PH from your tank into the fuge then the it flows up and spills over, through the bulkhead, back down into your tank.

OR

You might even rig a small PH to pump the water down or up into your tank.

If you want the pods and stuff in your display, gravity feed would be better.

Either way, some plumbing will be required. Complex or simple depends on the design. The hangons are fine, but the size of them really doesn't do much and the pods etc never make it into the tank, though their spawn might.

Hi

You can use a in tank overflow, runs off of sucktion with a utube, heres a pic of mine.

I use two rubbermaid containers with a bulkhead fittings easy to drill here's a pic, if you buy the containers make sure the side is flat where your going to drill. Here's a pic of my sump and refugium. If you look closely you can see the hose connecting them behind the skimmer. My overflow box has a hose that goes down to the sump.

Have a great evening!

Thanks Jimbo! The intank overflow is something I didn't really know about. I'll have to check that option out. The only thing is that I only have room for about a 5gal tank, so the 4.8gal hang on refuge might still be a mor simple idea. Time to do some research
