hammer coral

Morning guys,

I've got a small Hammer coral in my tank, and it is doing VERY well, plus I really like it. My girlfriend likes it also, and found out that they also come in a green color (mine is off white). So as I am still adding stuff to my tank I'd like to put a green on in too.

The question is, is this a coral that can be "fragged" and if so does anyone know where or who sells this green hammer coral in frag form?

If it is a branching hammer, fragging the base is fairly easy. If it is just one head or a non-branching variety, fragging is practically impossible.

Growing them out to fraggable size takes years and years.

Run down the store? You don't need to do anything THAT drastic!

If you have a pic of your hammer, we can better help ID whether it is branching or not.

Mine is a branching Hammer, but I don't want to frag that one. I would like to find a frag of Green Hammer, and buy it from someone. Or if I have to, I'll go to the store. I've found that buying direct from someones personal tank, it seems to me anyway, one gets much healthier stock.

I've never bought a coral from someone else's tank. I guess I just haven't ventured out that far. Do you buy from friends near you, or over the net?

Just from other friends tanks, trading, or buying out right, depends.

I've sold corals... It's not a bad way to go, really. Usually I give them away or trade, but if it's a big piece or a showpiece, I ask something for it.

Actually, I fragged the heck out of my tank and "sold" the frags for a donation to my MS150 charity ride. (Tax-deductable frags - even better!)

Danielle

PS. Ironically enough, my green metallic hammer auto-fragged a head off a couple of weeks ago. Too bad you aren't closer!
