Hamilton Metal Halide directly on tank

Hey everyone, I just received a new hamilton 36" metal halide fixture. Just wondering if you can place the light directly on the tank or do I need to hang it. I would appreciate any feedback from someone who has this light or anybody else who can give me some pointers. TIA and have a good weekend!

Jeff

If you are talking about a warehouse (Low bay / high bay) I bought one from ebay, took it apart and mounted it under the hood of my tank, went to Home Depot and found a solar-tube skylight extension tube and used it for a reflector, the transformer is hidden behind the plants on top of the hood. An electronic timer from walmart turns it on and off each day.

i think that is intended to be suspended above the tank, not resting on the glass (heat issue) or balancing on the rim of the tank (yikes!). most people place the MH 8-10" above the water level.

I balance it on the rim of the glass. Works fine actually; I put some 'L' bars that I screwed into the sides to make it impossible for it to fall into the tank. Heat is a non-issue with my chiller.

Heat is never an issue if you have the right size working chiller.
