Halogen UV Protection??

I am modding a small desk lamp that runs a 20 watt halogen bulb to make a light for my mini refugium. It came with protective UV glass, but I need to take that out for it to fit where I need it. Is this going to cause any problems or kill my macro algae or anything if I dont have the glass? Thanks.

Chad

Halogens are not the same as Metal Halide, it will brighten your tank but the light is not in the correct color spectrum to grow corals

Most halogens will not be the correct spectrum, they'll end up being in the 3000k-4000k range, which is not a high enough Kelving rating to grow much macroalgae. Do some searching about recommended refugium lights.

Thanks for everyone's help. I was checking out what other people use, and I think I might go with the fluorescent screw-in plant bulb instead. I think that should give me better results. Thanks.
