basically, HA is a long flowing green alaga looks sorta like hair.. Cyano is more like a red almost slime covering

usally Light and detirus or nutrience in the water itself

cut back on feeding , and keep maint. on the tank and filters( if using them) can use a clean up crew on most types of alaga..

I had this same problem. I ran a dose of Chemi-Clean by Boyd Enterprises. Then after it cycled through, I did a water chage with DI water. I purchased more hermits and ran another power head for water movement. From what I have read, cyano does not like water movement. I haven't had a problem since. I am running an 18tall nano.

I am pretty new to this so if I am wrong I will be quickly corrected. There is a great group of people here with tons of knowledge. Hopefully this helps.
