Hair Algae

Hello everyone! Wow I haven't posted in almost a year or so. Haha. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! (I had fried turkey for my first time) But for the real issue...

As you have guessed from my headline I have hair algae... I searched the forums and have seen different answers... from cooking rocks to turbo snails. I'm still trying to figure out what happened. I'm about to do a water test soon but... What can I do to temporarily reduce the growth of hair? The algae is long and dirty green/brown. Is there anything that eats it? If not... then I guess I have to pull the hairs each time and do 10% water changes and find the source of the issue.

I do run carbon, and do my usual changes. hm. I will return with more info! Thanks

What size tank is it and do you have any water parameters available and is there fish present in the tank which I'm sure there is. I have something that might help, but alot of people don't like to do it or use it.

Welcome back.

sounds like you have a nutrient export problem. have you been siphoning detritus when you do water changes? how old is the sand bed? what kind of skimmer do you have? are you running wet, a light tea coloured skimmate? how much do you feed the tank?

your test results would be nice, but not sure how much more they will tell us besides your description. unfortunately buying critters to eat the stuff generally does not work. we need to get to the root of the problem.

more than likely like most said u have a nutrient problem a.k.a phosphates get some parameters to see what your water looks like, als what is the usual water change u do 10-20% weekley-bi weekley etc also a lawnmower blenny does wonders get one you wont regret it he will help some.

In addition to the questions asked above, are you using RO/DI water for water changes?
