its been awhile since i posted some progress of my build...this is starting to become one slowwww build...lol anywho i was able to finish up the stand and canopy and primered/sanded it with 2 coats and now just needs some paint...i really wanted to stain the finished product but i guess it wasnt possible to do it with majority of the mouldings being MDF so its just going to see some high gloss black paint...and here it is:

yes there are lights in the canopy i am running (2) 250w halides and 2 110w VHO for actinics...it is actually ready for water as i might be doing that later on today. Some local reefers suggested that i move the valve on the skimmer parallel the skimmer and maybe raising the skimmer up a couple of inches so its not submerged too deep into the water? but hopefully i will have some pictures up when i fill it up with water...i will keep you guys updated...
