GSP - I give up

Ok, I'm just about ready to give up on my GSP and throw them in the garbage. They have not opened up for almost two weeks now. I have no idea what is wrong with them as the rest of the coral in the tank, including all the sps look fine and happy. I have checked my levels, all good ... changed flow patterns, no good ... done the equivelant of a 50 gallon water change (tank is 180) over the past week, no good ... and made sure that nothing was bothering them, snad blowing on them, etc, no good.

I have no idea what is wrong with them, prior they have done great for the last 18 months that I have had them. Nothing in the system has changed that I can find. What is going on with them, why won't they open anymore?

Tehy aren't next to anything that should bother them, and they are getting the same flow now that they were when they were opening and looking fine. They don't appear to be rotting, in fact the purple mat is just sitting there not doing much of anything.

If its white where? you mean the edges of the mat indicating that the mat is growing?

Mine looks kind of like a tube, and when the polyps are retracted, the outside is kind of white and the inside is dark purple

I'd just let it go, and forget that it's even in your tank.

Mine was taking over a neighboring rock. So I ripped it apart, and put the rock upside down (in an attempt to bury and kill the GSP that had grown on it).

2 months later, I flipped the rock back over and moved it somewhere new. There is now a small patch of GSP starting to come BACK on that piece of rock.

They are extremely hearty...

Ditto on skeety.

They eventually seem like a weed. So I control them and limit there exposure to sand only so not to overtake things. Then I can easilly prune the mat on the sand!

Is it possible you had something on your hand when you put it in your tank recently...mine seem to react when I put my dirty hands in the water...

And I agree on the flow...lots!

One of the GSP's in our 120g did the similar thing about a month and a half ago. It closed up for a little over 2 weeks. When it decided to open again it actually looked greener than it did before and has been open almost constantly since.

I guess it was so enticing looking after it reopened that the Porcelain Crab took up residence in it instead of on the LTA.
