Grow out tank possibly sps?

I have a 48x12x12 tank that I would like to use for coral propagation. Can I propagate sps corals without the use of mh's because of it's shallowness. I have to go out and purchase additional lighting for this tank and would like it to be as inexpensive as possible. I have a new daughter who is 2 weeks old tomorrow and here I am screwing around with fish tanks. I would love as much feedback as possible. Thanks

should not have a problem with a tank that shallow growing SPS under just about any lighting.

I'm interested in doing a tank like that to ... coincidentally, I have a little girl (2nd girl) that was born on 1/12 .....

Can you post what you end up doing with the tank? Equipment ... etc.

Also, where did you get a shallow tank like that?

Thanks Geoff. My second daughter also. My first turned a year and a half on the 5th. Can I use NO's or do I need to use PC's? Can I get away with eggcrate, a pump, and skimmer? Thanks

NO's might work, but you would need a ton of them. it would prolly be better to get VHO's or T-'5's there are 2 light kits with bulbs for about $100 each. try www.hellolights.com

I would go with a 4 bulb Tek fixture or retro personally.
