Question

green star polyps

I recently purchased a rock from my lfs that was covered in these polyps. On the way home. the polyps retracted and now they haven't come back out. It's only been three days now, but I am beginning to worry. Is this normal? Will they eventually come back out?

Foy they can be fusy, on a recent move my stayed contracted of a week. As long as you acclimented them properly and your parameters are good they should come back and grow like a weed.

Thanks.

On another note, for those who help me through my hysteria with my anenomes, they are both opening up and look wonderful now. I added another powerhead to my tank, and it has helped with everything in my tank.

I have had my GSP for amost a year and once after a change in location the main colony stayed retracted for about two weeks.

Not even weeds grow as fast as GSP.

I have seen my GSP "hibernate" when there are no changes that could be accounted for. They just close up at night like normal, and don't open up again for a few days. It almost seems like when they come back, they are even bigger.

well, when i bought my colony, it was about 3 inches in diameter. now it's about 8 inches in diameter, spreading to adjacent rocks, and almost getting out of control! i love them, though...they are like a huge green carpet in my tank!

When placing GSP in your tank allow for the inevitable growth. Try to keep it off your main reef structure. I have seen pics of a large tank that was all GSP, growing on the sides, all the rocks, and even the sandbed. I trim the little shoots of mine, to prevent it from jumping over to the next rock. These trimmings go on a bare rock and soon it will be ready to trade in at the LFS.
