Does it have bubbles or is it just slime? Dark green or pale green? Did it turn up suddenly? Any changes to the tank before it started to show up?

I have never had green algae other than the coraline that grows on the side of my tank(which I finally broke down and did some serious scraping). Back to subject, agree with Tim more info please. For it to be in both tanks it sounds like it is a water quality issue. Overfeeding, using tap water, or something. Have you added anything to the tank?

Well I will try to get pics. Water is ro. Feeding is nothing different than what I have been doing. Its like a dark green, but it is only on the sand no where else. No bubbles just slim. The fish is about 3 years the reef is about a year alittle more, Did a upgrade like 3 4 months ago

This sand bed may need to be replaced. Sand in a closed system has a limited life. You can try to suck out the slime with some of the sand under it, but at 3 years this may not help.

When you did the upgrade, did you take the sand from an older system? If so, how old?

Steve

WHich was?

what has your normal feeding routine been like?

Also, do you have a skimmer? If so, what kind.

How often do you do water changes?

Let me add to that.

If it's algae, then you have a nutrient problem (importing vs exporting imbalance).

If it's cyno, you could still have a nutrient problem, but also a flow problem.

I have a MRC skimmer, and a 1200 gal an hour pump. The flow is good. I think and I have a power head in each one of the tanks
