green chromis / cleaner chromis

I saw a green chromis take to cleaning a yellow tang like a cleaner wrasse. The tang even did its little "display" to the chromis saying "here do this". The chromis wandered over and began picking at the fins of the tang.

Anyone ever see a chromis do that?!?! I know they like to eat but geez!!
I even had someone else watch and see it to verify thats what I was seeing. I thought my contacts were dirty or something!!!

That's cool Adrienne. Were the chromis small-juveniles? I know that other species of fish will act as "cleaners" when they are juvies.

I have had four green chromis for about 3 weeks now and did notice last night that one tried to clean my yellow tang, but the tang was not interested and quickly moved away. The tang does love to have my bluestreak cleaner wrasse clean her. She follows the wrasse around the tank and lays to one side for a cleaning.

Who the heck is tmncali???? (snicker) so you ARE alive!

These chromis were large ones. Larger than I am used to seeing. These are about 2" I think. I dont judge measurements well.

I just thought that was odd. My chromis are just piggies they eat anything. I imagine if my tang held still long enough they would pick the stripes right off of her.
