gotta love coral life vs reef crystals ...thanks tony!
thanks for the coral life recommendation tony ...im very happy so far ...still only gonna get about 100 gallons out a of a 150 gal bucket but that seems normal for all salts when mixing to 1.026 ...and still getting some precipitate (scum) but seems to be the norm for my mixing setup after a day or two of mixing ...but i really like that CL is in 3 separate bags, dissolves alot faster and params seem higher .....and the CL was $20 cheaper than RC
*this by no means scientific evidence but heres what i found ...i/m sure you'll notice that temp and salinity are different for the tests and i used about 3-6 cups of RC in my coral life mix because i still had some left ...also my salinity meter "adjusts" for temp
RC test #1
alk 14
calcium 480
mag 1275
sg 1.0250
temp 80
RC test #2
sg = 1.026
alk = 8.4
mag = 1145
cal = 420
temp = 80F
CL Test
cal = 560
mag = 1490
alk = 14
sg = 1.0266
temp = 84

I just got my new bucket of Coralife. I was using IO for one bucket and lost almost all of my coraline growth and existing coraline actually receaded and some of it bleached out. I'm so mad I used that bucket of IO. I mix mine in a 5 gallon bucket with a mag 18 in it to mix. I mix the coralife the same way... Due to skimming and evaporation I slowly put 1.75 cups of IO in the bucket and after I decanted the water out of it I had about an 1/8 cup percipitate left. And the bucket was full of scum. With the coralife I get 0 (zero) percipitate and 0 (zero) scum. 1.66 cups of coralife yields a salinity of 22ppt when I needed 1.75 cups of IO to get the same. I have not tried to mix a batch of coralife to 35ppt yet but the IO took about 2.5 cups I think ill mix a batch up one of these day to see how much coralife it takes to get a salinity of 35ppt. I bet its less than 2.5 cups.

I've heard alot of good things about Coralife salt but I haven't used it yet myself. I'll have to get a bucket next and try it out. I'm using IO myself right now but my buckets down to probably only about 25 gallons worth of salt left.

1.75 cups of coralife in a five gallon bucket equals salinity of 25ppt.
I was a slight abit a dumb the other day when I was saying SG... I'm going to edit my post to reflect the truth.

Interesting.
Coral life is almost half the price of RC here. I'm thinking I'll have to give it a try.

I'm almost through my first 300gal bulk box of Coralife and I won't be going back to RC either.
