Got my inland shipment!

Well I got my Inland Aquatics shipment today at lunch time. Unfortunately it was a bit chilled, but I THINK everything survived. The mini stars and mini britles are moving around and the stombellas seem to be fine too. The macro algae is in place (some came in plug form) in the fuge. Its looking good.

I also got my conch. I was a little disappointed with the size, its about an inch long. I was expecting something a bit larger, but it will grow.

Two questions....

The conch. I acclimated him per instuctions from inland and he has moved. Matter of fact, I can't find him. I was under the impression they stick to the sand. Do they burrow??? I looked all around and can't find him. I think hes too large for a shrimp or something to pack him up and take him someplace else but I can't find the bugger. Do any of you who own them notice any type of absences??

Second.. My feather caulerpa went sexual.. I had three patches and one went, then another and now the last patch has gone. It's looking pretty sickly. I know they release the nutrients back into the water and my skimmer is picking it out pretty well. My question ... does one colony going sexual induce another? And how can I prevent this? I really don't mind losing it in the display since I have more in the fuge, but I would like to keep it in check in the display.

Lastly... I would highly recommend these flora and fauna kits from inland. I got about 6 or so stars and 6 mini bristles. The one bristle is abot 3 inches across with all the legs. He was pretty cool and has found a home in a nook of my boulder coral.

I can comment on the conch. I got four for my 90g (in Sept.) and they started about an inch long. Now three are about 2.5 inches and seem to grow every day. I am starting to think they are too much for a 90 ( I do have plenty of sand for them). They cover the bottom and sometimes I find them half way up the back eating algae. The first few days they took a while to start really moving around. I would not worry yet.

As long as you aren't using strictly very course crushed coral they will burrow under the sand. Look for a little tube sticking up out of the sand where there wasn't one before. lol I accidently found mine one day when putting a support under a piece of LR, that my goby kept sinking, and watch as he proceded to bury himself after I moved him, took all of a minute or so. My conch is about 1 1/2" long.

yeah, my conch- a fighting conch- also burries himself in the sand bed. he'll surface every few days, surry along the sand bed and then disappear again. he went m-i-a for the first few days after adding him and i was convinced that he was a goner. but, sure enough, he resurfaced.

hth.

A type of "snail" that can get really big, like big enough to knock over LR or just rearrange it.

I also got a shipment from Inland yesterday. I got the detrivore kit. Everything was alive and disapeared shortly after being put in the tank. I was surprised about the bristle worms. They were smaller then an inch in size but im sure they will grow.

FYI on anyone who wants that kit, I was told they were on backorder for a little over a week but still given the day when it would be shipped
