got everything functional!

i've been quite busy these4 last few weeks. i got rid of my 2 oscars and pleco in my 46gl. to expand my reef. so today i finished adding a floor board to my tank stand and slapped the last coat of paint, positioned the tank and filled it up. i added enough salt for 50gl , thinking 46 + 4= 50, sinse i had all my newly acquired attachments and gizmos hanging off the back, but it only took 46gl total?!?!

so now the salinity is at at 1.024, and ph of 8.3, with a remaining of 2.5mg of salt undissolved in the bottom. i have everything running, plus a rio 2400 acting as a powerhead, circulating very nicely (700+ gpm) if you like to surf! afew more days and it should be stable, ready for sand and live rock!

peace...

oooooooooooh yeah..... havin lots of fun......... i sifted my sand twice using a double layer of nylon screening to get all the debris out, which worked great, glad i did it. but i couldn't wait and jumped the gun, by adding my first layer of sand. heck! i thought i did a good job at it, and with the rio pump removed and all pumping devices off, i first added alittle, no biggie, but its 55lbs.... and i was making a mess..... so my tank was already cloudy..... and i did the pour..... really slow..... and i laid down a nice spread layer..... i step back..... i could only see the outline of the sand against the glass, nothing else...... the water which was soo crystal clear, was now a solid brown of micro sand particles, bubbles of air floating around my tank encrusted with sand, and a top layer of biological slime. but this evening things look a bit clearer, i'm looking at least 15gl water change later tonight. i have changed out 5 gls in which the top 1/8" layer of sand was removed, the difference was like night and day. so, i am having lots of "fun"!
peace...
