Question

good salt/ bad salt?

The consensus seems to be that Instant Ocean is the best salt mix. Am I correct in this? I just bought a batch of Kent Sea Salt? There's nothing wrong with it, is there?

Also- Is there a chemical difference when your salt mix gets slightly moist (and therefore kinda hard)? It doesn't dissolve all the way when you try to mix it. Can you just use the dissolved stuff on the top of your mixed batch or do you have to dump the whole bag?
thanks!

As far as this OLD 43 yr old mind can remember,, i believe Kent salt WAS made by Instant Ocean,,,,,don't think you can do wrong with it,,(might be the same thing)

on the "crusty salt"(no , not YOU Jerel, heheh ), as long as it's a bit and it's not THAT hard (that you can't break it up in your hands) it ought to be ok,,,i'm assuming that you use aeration or a power head in your make-up container to mix the salt ... just remember to keep the bag/bucket closed up when not using it, and away from water/moisture til you need it,,

Long ago on Aquarium Frontiers..they did an article about the different salt brands and Instant Ocean came out to best mimic natural seawater. I've never used anything else. Ditto what Jeff said. Don't let you salt get wet. Buy the 5g buckets and close them tightly when you are done.

I have used IO since 75, never saw a reason to switch. I have heard the kent made by IO but never seen it substantiated. Of the relatively affordable salt brands that are easy to find most places I think IO takes the prize

It's possible that Kent is made by IO, or they are both made by another company completely. The art of rebranding.
I haven't used IO or Kent, so I can't say which is better.
