A piece of raw shrimp, or just let your live rock cycle the tank.

That Im not 100% sure on. I cycled with Damsels. I know now that i shouldnt have, but it was before i found all the helpful people on this board. I'm sure one of them will chime in soon and tell you how long the shrimp has to stay.

I've heard the little green/blue Chromis guys are awesome to cycle with.. They're hardy like damsels, sans the 'tude.

Lotsa fish jump... In fact, I think almost all of them have the ability.... so it's always a good idea to keep things covered as much as possible to reduce the risk

it's mean to cycle with any fish as the ammonia spike will burn their gills... poor little gill-burnt fishies...

Just the die off from the live rock is fine.

I never tried the shrimp thing, but never needed to.

Wow... I never heard this..

I guess that means I made "Blue B@stard" (my little reef-nazi damsel) go thru it...

But at least I'm fair, I don't dish out what I won't wanna take...

So, I'll make sure I keep with my current habit of smoking at least a pack a day, so I'll burn my gills too

it going to take 4-8 weeks for your tank to completed it cycle.. So your cured rock are going to cycle again. No harm there to your rock nor your tank.

I use Stability to cycle my tank and it took my tank a week cured..
Someone people will get mad at me on this, but yes I use stablility and it cycle my tank in a weeks and not 4-8 weeks.
That 1 short cut into reef and it wook for me, but then no fish harm in this so I guess I am on a safer side here.

Stability is a good stuff to cycle any tank with, beat the heck out of harmming some fish. You can get them at any LFS or petland.
