Goniopora (flower pot) survival
Has the survival rate for this coral gone up in captivity? Has the reefing community learned how to care for these corals?
Thanks,
John

here is a recent post in the LPS forum. There are long term success stories, but just like keeping anemones under non MH lighting, the exceptions of success are far fewer than the rule which is they die in less than a year.
I think there is deifntie progress being made however on how we can keep these things alive. Steveweast is an example of someone who has done it consisently well.

I've never directly target fed him, but the tank gets Cyclopese once a week and a couple days of that goo that we made. By the way, that goo kicks butt! All my corals look like there gonna explode when I feed with that!

I am probably a year away from filling my tank with living specimens. I had a goni that was doing great and like almost all others about the year mark it started to deteriorate until it died. Everything I read pointed towards slow starvation. Is there something that these peoples tanks have in common that are allowing them to keep the goni alive long term? Has their gonis been alive long term? By long term I mean more than
1 1/2 years.
Thanks
John

I run the plenum system, it's been up and running for 15 years, and Geoff had mentchend in a earlier thread that i might have a lot more nutrients in my system that most dont. JMO
Brent.
I also know a person here in town that has had one for over 3 years.

Does his system have a high nutrient load? I have read that it isn't necesarily nutrients but the size of the food. Gonis need a large amnount of very small bits of food that is hard to duplicate in our systems. Has anything come along to aleviate this problem?
