Going Crazy

Well I finally got the copperband I've always wanted, hes eating just fine, looks healthy as a horse, and has managed to eat every little featherduster in sight, which is fine.... but talk about timid hes out of sight the second he catches you looking, enough to drive me nuts! is this just the "newcomer" fish stage cause hes been there for about 2 weeks, or do I need to do something to make the little guy feel a little more brave about showing himself?

Cheers

Just keep approaching the tank slowly and the copperband will get used to you being there and it will slowly begin to venture out in the open more!

My copperband goes crazy when I approach with food and I can sit with my face against the glass and it comes right up to the glass and stares back!

not a whole lot you can do. it is great that it is eating like that though. usually really timid fish are the ones you really gotta work on to get enough to eat, if they eat at all. it is just a matter of time if it is eating well that it will get more confident.

It could be the acclimation period for him, they can be very timid, altough the two that I had were both immune to my presence. I had one for almost a year, died with no problems visible and all tankmates were fine. The second one lasted only 3 weeks. I believe that this death was the result of cyanide poisoning. He ate like crazy, (a sign of cyanide) was very active, with nice color. He became shy and died about 4 days later. I hope that this is not the case with yours. I no longer buy from lfs owners that have no knowledge of where there supplier gets fish. I recently read that approx 70% of copperbands offered for sale are caught with this method. Good Luck.

i cant speak for a copperband, but my scopas and regal tangs were both the same way, come to think of it, so was the royal gramma.

they would stay hidden, only come out for breif moments. and dart away the second i looked over at the tank.

they are out often, come to my hand for food, and only go hide at night.

good to hear the cb is eating. good luck with it!
