GFCI Reminder it helped BIG TIME!

Sunday i was doing some work on my 75 and i cleaned out the over flow boxes, Welllllllll, when i moved the one on the right side of the tank i must have losend up the bulk head a bit, and it is hard piped to the sump and in the meantime i had my wave timer down laying down in the back and had forgot to hang it back up in side the stand, so today when i got home tonight my tank was silent!! a tiny drip drip drip was landing right on the end of my timer so its drying out now, just pressed the button and Rock in Roll! i just thought i would share my story, i was one of those that thought that ( MY systems all right, i dont need a GFCI ) well let me tell ya it was the best money i ever spent!

Good deal! So what exactly is a GFCI? I know it has something to do with shutting things off before water causes fire but havnt seen a GFCI in stores. What I am asking is what does it stand for and where do I look for it? Right now I have everything in surge protectors mounted on the wall.

GFCI=Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter It trips the circuit when there is .03 microvolts or more to ground.Any store that sells outlets sell them. They are used in any area with in 6" of water.Your Kitchen, bathrooms, basements, outside etc should have these.Either the outlet or a GFCI breaker.

FYI..The code was revised in 2005 to require that ALL kitchen recepticles mounted over counter-tops have to be GFCI. Even if they're more that 6' from the sink.

If you have a dedicated circuit ( one circuit breaker that only runs your fish stuff) you can replace the breaker in your panel with a GFCI breaker
