Getting fish to eat for the first time?
Are there any good methods for getting fish to eat for the first time? I have a big bluejaw trigger and he is not eating (we are on day #3). Just shows no interest in my wide range of foods I'm offering (brine, homemade mush, cyclopeeze, mysis, krill). Any suggestions? When should I start to really worry about him getting sick/dying because of it?

I tend to let the fish naturally find its way around the tank...
For the first feeding usually they will peck at some algae .. and as they feel more comfortbale they will eat the flake food etc etc.
At this point the fish are practically eating it out of my hand...
If it goes one two three days with no eating then there is a problem.. stressed ? sick ?

He is not stressed or sick. He mouths it, but spits it back out (the frozen stuff). He better figure out that is all he is getting or he will be a hungry little fish.

Well I got some clams and broke one up and put it in. I'll let you know if he goes after it or not. I'm starting to worry a wee bit.

Well he is a blue jaw so I'm not sure, being more planktavoric (is that a word) if that is what he would be interested in.

I find Blue Jaws can be somewhat neurotic when they first arrive. I've got a male/female "pair" (read: they live together) and the male plays "dead" even though he's been here for many weeks. The female is more outgoing...
My male eats, but not with the same gusto that the female does.
I wouldn't worry too much, but perhaps giving him some space (observe from a vantage point where he can't see you) might let him relax a bit.

Yeah I had a BJ that jumped out before who was very neruotic as well. I just want him to stay happy and healthy and am trying to figure out his likes in the food area.

Well he is definitely becoming more aggressive toward food I put in, but I still don't think I've seen him actually swallow anything. Once he gets over it and figures out that is all he is getting, I think he'll be fine. I'll keep you advised.

PaintGuru have you tried Formula One ? This is like crack to fish hehehe.. .All my fish just attack it full force.. my clown brings a bunch back to his pad to snack on later and to feed the anemone.. quite cool to watch... Can't give it to them all the time though...
If he don't eat that then In my opinon something is wrong... again my 2 cents..

Actually I'm out of Form 1, I'm giving him my homemade mush and a few other things. I'll have to go pick some up.

All is well (I think). He started eating my homemade mush like mad. Now if he would just not be so paranoid of me I'd be happy .
