Gave Hair Algae a hair cut

Today I decided enough was enough on the hair algae. It was so thick and intertwined with the corals that I couldn't really take out individual pieces of LR. So at my sister's suggestion, I started to cut the algae with scissors. Cut, cut, cut. It did a pretty good job, though there is some residue. I did a small water change to get rid of some of the floating HA.

After I got all the trimming done, I decided to scrape of some excess coraline. And while I was scraping, I realized that I almost bumped my wrasse (Mr. Spot), who's been puny lately When I do tank work, Mr. Spot is usally right there watching every move. He's a good supervisor But tonight when I scraping, he never moved out of the way. Over the past week I've noticed that Ms. Stripe (my tomato clown) has been picking on him.

So now I'm worried about Mr. Spot being stressed, and that the tank work didn't help him any tonight.

Cath,

Did you trim the HA into a topiary?

Why don't you list Mr. Spots symptoms and the way he's been acting? I know this all started before the trimming. I hope someone can give you ideas.

Hehehe on the topiary

Thanks, Alice. Lately, Mr. Spot hangs around at the bottom of the tank, like a sick bird would do. He does swim some, but not much. He eats, but not voraciously. He looks emaciated. Breathing is slow.

Did you hold the HA in between your fingers when cutting? That stategy seems to work well for my barber.

Hopefully Mr. Spot will perk up. Thats the one thing that bothers me most about doing major work in the tank, I always feel like I'm putting too much stress on the fish.

If your clown continues to harrass him maybe you should isolate Mr. Spot until he perks up. That way if any signs of disease show up you can treat him quickly.

...if you use the weed wacker, don't use the blower to get it out of the tank, might make a mess

why not just give your rocks a HA bikini wax?

Ha

I have a small HA problem. I took care of a lot of it last night. I did a water change and when I was sucking up the water I put the tube over the HA and kinda cute the HA off with the tubing. It went right into the waste water and gone. Was kinda easy actually.

Your wrasses symptoms sound like he might be suffering from an anxiety disorder, I could send you Paxil but need to check on dosage levels for something of that weight. How much does he weigh?

just kidding hope all is doing well in there own little world!

How IS Mr. Spot the wrasse doing? If he's not better, maybe you could start a thread about him.

OK, OK..I get the hint

Here are some before and after pix of the tank. The before pic is from May, and the HA had about tripled since that picture. Actually, Map, I did use hair cutting shears and cut it much like cutting...well you know...like hair At this point, I think some good snails and LOTS of them would do the fine trim, don't you think, Bob? I may even consider BB on down the line.

well shoot! I can't post the before picture. Her's the tank after the hair cut.

You name your fish like my wife and I do... Mr. Blennie... Mr Shrimp. for some reason they are all Mr in my tank Except for stubby the clownfish... he had brooklynella, then fin rot (hence the name stubby) and just finished recovering from ich. Poor guy... he/she is a fighter though.
